We know that university life is about much more than just what happens in the classroom. Residential living provides students with opportunities for learning outside the classroom, encourages interactions with peers who share similar interests, and promotes service-learning and community outreach through various programs and activities in the residence halls. Living on-campus helps students discover their passions and purpose outside of the classroom and supports their efforts to prepare for life after college.
Cal Lutheran’s three residential Living-Learning Communities—the Global Leaders Community, the STEM Living-Learning Community, and the University Honors Program Living-Learning Community—are specialized living environments that capitalize on the opportunity to help students discover their purpose. Living-Learning Communities helps to improve student retention and academic success, provide specialized and unique opportunities for student, faculty, and staff engagement, and foster friendships among students that last well beyond collegiate years.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted how students live, study, and engage with one another on-campus. The pandemic has shed light on opportunities to enhance our residence hall common spaces by implementing additional outdoor gathering spaces and adapting indoor spaces to have new lounge furniture and better accommodate technology use.
