As we celebrate the second anniversary of the Fifty and Better program (FAB), we are proud that we have helped to offer intellectual stimulation and community to our FAB students. As our name suggests, for those 50 and better, we have been able to open our ‘virtual doors’ to those within Ventura County and those outside the local area. Some of our students have referred to FAB as a “lifeline” and they have shared that FAB courses have been something they look forward to attending. They truly appreciate the sense of “warmth and caring” they feel, even in our virtual environment.
It is no wonder that in two years our enrollments have grown significantly -- we have expanded our course offerings, introduced three FABulous lecture series offered throughout the year on a wide variety of topics, and have hosted virtual activities.
The future continues to look bright for FAB. But we need your help!
Our vision is greater than our current funding. We need to significantly increase our administrative support, so our students (and faculty) continue to receive exceptional care and service! We want to increase our offerings and present many courses in the HyFlex modality (so in-person and virtual students can attend the same class simultaneously, which increases operational costs). We are planning in-person and virtual social engagement activities, down-the-road day trips, and study-travel opportunities. We also want to give scholarships to those who may not be able to afford courses or study-travel opportunities.
To achieve this vision, we need your support! We are dreamers -- so on this Cares Day, please help us reach for the stars and continue to enrich the lives of our FAB students.
